Last night my brother said to me that without any doubt of bias, he believed his daughter (my new baby niece!!) to be the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Of course I believe this to be true myself. I am so very proud of him for becoming such a great father. I knew he would. I am, however, curious to see what will happen around Jr. High time (evil laugh).

the good the bad and the disarmingly disappointing

October 16th, 2007 · No Comments

Well I’m back from my whirlwind weekend in San Francisco.

Tamara and Bruce’s wedding was lovely and fun, and I had a really good time. Don’t let the title fool ya. Now if I can get my hearing back and stop thinking for just a minute, that’d be great.

I spent 4.5 hours at SFO today before I could actually get on an airplane. At least I knitted the better part of Max Mello’s viking hat (the good). I’m sort of very tired, cranky and sad (the bad). The disappointing is better left unsaid, by me at least.

Just found out that my sewing room is the perfect place for quiet reflection and study. Who would have thought that the case, not anyone who’s ever heard me in there working. Too bad I didn’t have this area the last time college happened to me.

In other news, going to S.F. tomorrow under the guise of seeing Tamara and Bruce get married. Of course we’re going to do that too, but the real reason is to party, SLUMBER STYLE with Charlene and Virginia!! I’m the luckiest girl in the whole wide world!!

Must sign off for now, gotta pack. See you Tuesday!

mind reading by doyla

I recently emailed a large number of friends today in order to enlist some help writing a bio about me and my sewing venture for a newsletter I’ll be featured in. Here’s what came back from Ms. Doyla:

Heidi, i wish i knew more about your business to give you some buzzz, but it sounds like the article you mentioned is a good start. What i have seen of your products, the aprons, the dresses, the purses, convinces me that you are a rockabilly/punk rock goddess of the Singer ( or whatever machine you use)! You create extrordinary art out of everyday objects, for sure.

Enjoy your split pea soup and the success you deserve.
We will meet again someday…

How did she know that I was ACTUALLY making split pea soup from scratch tonight? So weird.

work aprons, aka pretty tool belts

October 9th, 2007 · No Comments

I finally got to work on Becky’s tool belt tonight and it turned out so cute! Just have to find some buckles and we’re in business! Mine is the bright floral one, the first one I made. Becky’s is the lovely plaid and the dotted one will go into my webstore when finished.

You’ll see if you look very carefully a slightly annoyed cat “trying on” the dotted apron. Awesome!

wardrobe refashion, 2 month pledge

October 1st, 2007 · No Comments

I have pledged to purchase no “throw away” clothes for two months, I wanted to start small and see what I could do. I mean it shouldn’t be thaaat difficult for me considering how much I sew. I was thinking that I’d like to look less like a crazed homeless person for Bruce and Tamara’s wedding though, so I decided to wear a nice long sleeved dress. Turns out I already have the perfect dress in my closet, just needed a cute jacket to dress it up. I went to my friendly local Value Village here in Portland and found the perfect shade of brown wool suiting. I took some inspiration from some scraps I had lying around and ended up with an adorable $2.99 jacket with epaulets, pocket welts and a few other cute details.

It doesn’t look very flattering on Mary (my dressform), but it really does manage to streamline the upper torso. There will be three buttons at the top of the neck and I chose to make covered buttons using the tattoo flash fabric I used for the detail elsewhere on the jacket. It is so cute, I love it!
