Cute Cute Cute!

Does anyone know where I can find a Williams-Sonoma store here in town? I’ve got to see these in person, they are so cute! Who wouldn’t love to receive cookies made from these for Christmas?? I believe it is possible that I may need to own some animal cracker shaped cookie cutters. Yup.

See them here.Cracker!

Home Sweet Home

September 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

Hi there apartment, I just wanted to apologize for the state you’re in right now. You’ve probably figured it out by now, but I’m moving. I just wanted to let you know that it’s not you, it’s me. I just can’t afford you anymore, so I’m moving next door. I hope you won’t be angry when you see me around the neighborhood, no hard feelings?

Yup, I’m moving. Next door. Now. The decision was made rather last-minute, but I think it will work out well in the long run. Can’t wait to be done with this mess!

pork and hominy stew

August 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Made this last night and it was universally agreed that this food is delicious! I got the recipe from epicurious, see it here

Lovely flavor, not too spicy, not too sweet or salty. I did omit the ham, felt like that might be too much, what with the pork shoulder and bacon already in the dish. Yum!

RIDE BIKES!

August 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Yes, that’s right. Last weekend I went camping with D and the kids and I rode motorcycles for the first time in my life ever! First I rode (and crashed at low speed) the peewee 50, this was much fun. Safety being 3rd most important, I was wearing shorts and a tshirt because, well, how fast can you go on one of those anyway? Fast enough to fall over, that’s for sure. Got some lovely bruises on my legs from that one.

Then the next day I got some quick lessons from D and Berkeley and rode Maggie’s dirtbike around the campsite and some trails. At one point (and this is the fun part kids) I missed a turn back to the campsite and ended up on a different trail. Got stuck in the mud, and then just as the cavalry arrived, I did a wheelie UP A TREE! Luckily there were witnesses to this. In fact, when asked what Thomski thought of my wheelie he said, “It was kind of small.” Really? Seriously Thomas, I rode a motorcycle UP A TREE! What does it take to impress kids these days anyway?

I loved every bit of it, even during the crashes I was laughing hysterically because the amount of fun is out of control. Must. Get. Dirtbike.

what’s paris up to these days anyway?

August 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

I love my junk email inbox, sometimes it’s just so poetic. And isn’t Paris in the front of everyone’s thoughts these days anyway? I wonder if she showed her beaver to the aliens and that’s what got her returned in the first place?

Alright, so my green “Rusted Root” sweater has been finished for awhile, almost a month now, but I just haven’t had time to show it yet. Here she is! It is a lovely fit and was much fun to make, can’t wait to make another!

If you’re a raveler my username is Heidimonkey, feel free to check out my other stuff too.

sadness in the garden

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments

We ended up loving our garden too much and I guess it gave our tomatoes Buckeye Rot. Sadly, I had to dispose of about 60% of our current crop. Of course it just started raining, so I’m not sure what’ll happen. They did have a few days to dry out once we realized what was happening, but I’m skeptical.

I guess it is possible to love your garden too much!

one happy nerd

Sometime ago, during one of my trips to the local Goodwill, I picked up a device. A cool new (to me) gadget for my kitchen, yes one more gadget. But this one is AWESOME! And I love it.

It’s an apple peeler, corer and slicer. It’s a big metal contraption that you sort of attach the apple to and with a little elbow grease end up with these…

Which are now these…
