Wow, I forgot how much I love to grow food. It’s amazing the amount of pride I have in this small endeavor, and how much enjoyment I get out of seeing new growth everyday. The butternut squash seem to double each night. That’s awesome, unless you’re a sweet pepper and you’re trying to grow next to them. Yes, I planted too close I fear, and I’m not sure what I should do. Maybe just get a pot for the little pepper so that it may thrive!

This weekend I ate stuff that I had a hand in growing! I had minty sweet iced tea AND I made the lovely (and I do mean LOVELY) pizza in a cast iron pan pictured below. Ok so I’ve only been able to use herbs so far, but how cool is that? Ooh and I made a banana blueberry bread that was divine. The bananas had gone really far so they were nice and oily, and the blueberry gives it just the right tang. Yum!

P.S. Pizza in a cast iron pan might be the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten.

Tattoo Flash On My Top!

Just finished an adorable ruffled top. It’s that fantastic tattoo flash fabric that I bought about 100 yards of several years ago. It’s gone now, sad sad sad. Funny though, most of the projects I made out of this never worked out quite right. Not that there weren’t plenty of chances, I purchased this fabric with the pink background (pictured), the tan AND the black background.

It’s also too bad that my new(ish) dressform is too large. Know anyone who wants to buy or trade for the right size?

Lunch today was delicious. Montage. Smoked cheddar w/chicken, Rainier beer and a side of tomatoes. Yes, I live on the edge.

How much do I love knitting? Lots. Here’s what I’m working on now. It’s an Anthropologie Inspired Capelet but for a 10 year old. It’s out of fluffy Jiffy yarn, acrylic, but it’s for a kid so it’s gotta be washable. Please notice the adorable puffed sleeves and the cute vintage button closure. Yay!

I have always been known to be a little bit intolerant towards the stupid annoying hippies in my neighborhood. This is not news to anyone who knows me. Hawthorne has always been a place for lots of oddballs to converge, and this has been a source of personal enjoyment over the years, but why do the hippies think we all want to buy their crap ala flea market style?

On one side of me is a random hippie flea market, across the street is the “Hawthorne Artisans Market”. Seriously? Does one block NEED that many tie dyes, bongs and patchwork corduroy bell bottoms?

Nobody wants your tie-dyed bongs, asshole.

Si! Si, it is nearly party time! Birthday party time, that is! We are just 2 short days away from my 35th birthday and it’s starting to be exciting for me! Dinner will be fun because my birthday is one of the few times I get to pressure people to drink tequila and they HAVE TO DO IT! Mind you, I won’t pressure them to drink crappy tequila. Oh noes.

As if for my birthday, Kate Beaton made this lovely comic. Ok not really for my birthday because she doesn’t know who I am other than some random emailer from Portland, OR. But still, a girl can dream right? It’s not important WHO this is for, just that there are others out there who find Mr. Darcy as dreamy as I do. Audrey?

Alright, so I didn’t use vodka in the crust as I’d planned, but isn’t all baking really just tasty science? This particular strawberry rhubarb pie just might be the most delicious pie I have ever baked. Real.

In other news, fake moustaches are great! So is this beautiful sunny day we’re having here in rainytown, I mean Portland OR.

Yes, yes it’s true. My lunch (Monday) was so delicious that I HAD to photograph and share with everyone. Chick salad sandwich from Whole Foods. What’s not pictured here? A piece of delicious strawberry rhubarb pie, I ate the whole piece!

In other news, 8 days until I turn 35! How exciting!! Now if only we could get just a tiny bit of warm weather for the occasion? Hey, it might be cold out but at least there’s not a machete in my crotch.
