yeah it’s hot, but I have a garden!

June 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Wow, I forgot how much I love to grow food. It’s amazing the amount of pride I have in this small endeavor, and how much enjoyment I get out of seeing new growth everyday. The butternut squash seem to double each night. That’s awesome, unless you’re a sweet pepper and you’re trying to grow next to them. Yes, I planted too close I fear, and I’m not sure what I should do. Maybe just get a pot for the little pepper so that it may thrive!

This weekend I ate stuff that I had a hand in growing! I had minty sweet iced tea AND I made the lovely (and I do mean LOVELY) pizza in a cast iron pan pictured below. Ok so I’ve only been able to use herbs so far, but how cool is that? Ooh and I made a banana blueberry bread that was divine. The bananas had gone really far so they were nice and oily, and the blueberry gives it just the right tang. Yum!

P.S. Pizza in a cast iron pan might be the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten.

Lunch today was delicious. Montage. Smoked cheddar w/chicken, Rainier beer and a side of tomatoes. Yes, I live on the edge.
Also, I got my camera back and have a few new pics of the garden, and last but not least, check out these vicious vicious beasts!

Yes, yes it’s true. My lunch (Monday) was so delicious that I HAD to photograph and share with everyone. Chick salad sandwich from Whole Foods. What’s not pictured here? A piece of delicious strawberry rhubarb pie, I ate the whole piece!

Thanks for my yummy sack lunch!!

In other news, 8 days until I turn 35! How exciting!! Now if only we could get just a tiny bit of warm weather for the occasion? Hey, it might be cold out but at least there’s not a machete in my crotch.

bacon…the most delicious reason to have tight pants

March 21st, 2008 · 1 Comment

Yes folks, today was a double bacon day for me. Specifically, a double bacon morning. But it turned out to be fairly inspirational for this evening. Well bacon, and a few other things of course.

Natasha, your apron is done! I think I’ll make a few more and throw them in the shop while I’m at it. Hope you enjoy it!

mind reading by doyla

I recently emailed a large number of friends today in order to enlist some help writing a bio about me and my sewing venture for a newsletter I’ll be featured in. Here’s what came back from Ms. Doyla:

Heidi, i wish i knew more about your business to give you some buzzz, but it sounds like the article you mentioned is a good start. What i have seen of your products, the aprons, the dresses, the purses, convinces me that you are a rockabilly/punk rock goddess of the Singer ( or whatever machine you use)! You create extrordinary art out of everyday objects, for sure.

Enjoy your split pea soup and the success you deserve.
We will meet again someday…

How did she know that I was ACTUALLY making split pea soup from scratch tonight? So weird.

dreaming of HAM!

September 25th, 2007 · No Comments

Well, it’s the beginning of fall here in beautiful Portland and that can mean only one thing: HAM! Well soup anyway. There’s a ham waiting to be cooked and eaten as part of hamfest ‘07 part deux. Then, after a few days, there will be split pea soup!! Delicious, thick split pea soup. I love soup season. And ham, yeah, ham.

Good morning! Here’s some wee cute latte art, magically delicious. Especially alongside a cheddar bacon scallion scone. Bakery Bar, I sure am going to miss you. Sooner than later, I hope.

last night, we said, we did

February 11th, 2007 · No Comments

There were just a few clever things said last night:

  1. I’m 33 percent finished with my night.
  2. A tambourine is different than a bass. (Jenica to Heidi)
  3. Often confused, but totally different. (Heidi to Jenica)

Also, had delicious greasy breakfast, this picture does not justice to the food we had at MFP last night. Yum.
